#1090 - Working with segments or groups

Closed General Question created by Michiel Cazemier 9 years ago

I've got a question that maybe is very easy to solve but i'm a bit stuck here. I would like to work with one Mailchimp list instead of 5+ or so to keep things simple and easy to work with (I don't want duplicate contacts between these lists, so I can keep them updated). But in SugarCRM i'm using multiple target lists to keep things organized and to have a nice overview of the different "memberships" . What is the bests way to copy multi target lists or something to a single list in Mailchimp? But sometimes only would like to target the technical or hr peeps. Maybe there is a workaround to sync extra field data from SugarCRM to Mailchimp so I can create a segment in Mailchimp? My situation is this, I have around 500 contacts on a general newsletter. Hopefully my story makes a bit sense ;)

Good question, using a single global target list is actually what we recommend. It makes things much simpler as you describe.

There's not a way to sync multiple Sugar lists to a single MailChimp list, but you can create a master Target List in Sugar that you sync to a master List in MailChimp. You would then create all of the fields you want to segment on in MailChimp on your list (title, status, city, state, etc.). Using the SugarChimp Field Mapper (Admin > SugarChimp Field Mapping) you can set whatever fields you want to sync to MailChimp.

Once you do all of that all the data you need to segment on the MailChimp side will be there.

Will this work for you? Thanks!

Will this method help you accomplish what you're wanting to do?

      Thanks!

Hi, this is the way method I currently use. But I have account/company data that I need inside Mailchimp, that's not possible right? I have different company types (partner, member, press etc) on which I segment my mailings inside Mailchimp (contacts who are related to these accounts). You understand what I mean? :)

It is possible, you would need to use a similar method we talked about for the account names https://www.sugaroutfitters.com/support/SugarChimp/1042

In the pro editions of Sugar you could use create calculated fields in Studio. Since you're on CE, you could create a field on your Contacts/Targets/Leads for your 'customer type' field and then use a custom logic hook to update the fields when it changes.

Then you would use the Field Mapper to sync the new field which would allow you to segment on your 'type' field in MailChimp.

Would this work for you? Thanks!

      Hi,

I already have a customer type field in at my contacts modules, but need to figure out how to use these custom logic hooks! ;)

      Ah, ok. Got it.

Logic hooks require custom code to implement. This would be a pretty common and straightforward implementation.

Have you worked with any sugar developers in the past for customizations?

Jumping in here. Another option that doesn't require coding or knowledge of logic hooks is Process Manager. You can update related records automatically. In this case, you would create a workflow that gets triggered whenever a contact is updated. When that happens then copy the customer type over to the related account.

      Hope that helps! -Jason
