#2436 - Groups in MailChimp

Closed Feature created by daphneash 7 years ago

Hi, I hope you are well. I've recent bought SugarChimp and am testing adding contacts from Sugar to MailChimp lists. I wanted to find out how I add them to a specific group on the list. I use Groups to separate the type of product our customers use (e.g. Cloud solution or Software Solution) so need to be able to add them to the correct Group from Sugar, not just the list. Any help in this area would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Daphne

    Hello Daphne,

You will need to have a multiselect or dropdown custom field within Sugar that is mapped to MailChimp Groups. This is one of the more technical things to do within the integration, so I recommend using our Field Mapping Guide as you set them up to sync. There is a place towards the bottom that talks specifically about MailChimp Groups. You will need to create one dropdown option for each of the MailChimp Groups within Sugar. The important part here, is that you will match the LABEL in Sugar with the Group option in MailChimp. Let me know if you have any more questions on that.

    Thanks, Jon

    Hi Jon,

Thank you for your help with this. Just to confirm, if I get the dropdown options added to Sugar (I presume this will need to be done at a development level for Sugar?), is it possible for a contact to join more than one Group? If I have a contact who is using say version B of a product and is from the UK, can I use field mapping and the drop downs to add them to both the version B and UK groups?

    Thank you,

    Daphne

    Hello Daphne,

You are correct in what you're saying. You will be able to add the multi-select in Sugar just as you would any other custom field. You can do that within Studio on the Admin panel, no development work required. The system is pretty intuitive. If you have someone in-house that does that kind of work for you, then I would get them to do it. Otherwise, I wouldn't pay your Sugar provider to add that field to Sugar.

This guide should be good for helping you setup the new field within Sugar: Creating a Field in Studio

Let me know if that works out.

    Cheers!

    Jon

      Hi Jon,

Thank you, I've added a multi-select field. When setting up the mapping, I am having trouble on the Queue a Re-Sync page. I am selecting Sugar to Mailchimp but the Groups are not updating. Does the resync queue rely on a scheduler? I am using a test site for Sugar and needed to create a manual Test Scheduler for the original resync (which worked successfully in adding contacts from a target list to a mailchimp list). I'm wondering if I need to set up a test scheduler for this, or if the resync queue should be working.

    Hello Daphne,

That sync should run based on the same SugarChimp scheduler. Is the Health Status page showing as pending to MailChimp, or is everything zero'd out?

Based on that, it is not the scheduler. I would guess that there is some issue with the actual dropdown options on the List, but it is hard to tell with these things. If you could install the latest update by going to https://www.sugaroutfitters.com/orders and finding your SugarChimp order. The newest download should be 7.7.3. You will install it over the previous version without uninstalling and will not lose any of the changes you've made so far. Then, go back to the Health Status page and run another resync from Sugar to MailChimp. When that is done, let me know and I'll give you steps on how to check the status of those MailChimp calls.

    Thanks, Jon

How do the MailChimp calls work?

    Hello Daphne,

Navigate to http://arkk.upgrades.enablecloud.co.uk/#SugarChimp/layout/adminbatches . You should see a table with some weird data in it that represents different calls to MailChimp. On theleft side is a 'show' button for each row. When you click that, you will see some data about the MailChimp call. Can you click a few of those and send me a screenshot of what you see?

    Thanks, Jon

      Hi Jon,

Of course - I could only see the one row https://www.arkksolutions.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/GroupSugarChimp5.jpg

    Alright, thanks.

That doesn't show any errors, but only two people were synced. How many people are on the list? Is your Field Mapping set to include the MultiSelect/Group sync for this list? Can you queue another resync from Sugar to MailChimp for the list that has the Group syncing. Once we get a good sync we should be able to check those batches again to see if anything is error'ing out.

    Thanks.

Three people are on the list. They all synced originally but I have only added one to a group on Sugar - perhaps this is the one not syncing?

These are still my field mapping settings, they should be correct. https://www.arkksolutions.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/GroupSugarChimp3.jpg - the other three fields (First Name, last Name, Email) are mapping correctly, so I pressume I don't need to tell SugarChimp to map the groups beyond what I've done in the image?

Just to confirm I've been unable to get the Group to sync at all - the lists are the only things syncing.

I have just set up a re-queue in the Health Status and re-checked the call. This is the result

    Hello Daphne,

Thanks again for that. Your field mappings look good. I suggest we get on a call to troubleshoot the issue further. Could you be available tomorrow around 2/2:30 central time to get on a screenshare? If so, I will setup a meeting for us so I can see on your system what is going on. Let me know if that is something you'd like to do.

    Thanks, Jon

      Hi Jon,

Sounds good, but can we make this earlier? I'm in the UK so 2pm central time is 8pm for me!

      Thanks,

      Daphne
