#513 - Finding it hard to install upgrade to 6.5.13

Closed Installation created by marketingqed 10 years ago

We've purchased a new license of SecuritySuite but we're finding that although the UI suggests we've gone through the processes correctly, the settings we have aren't taking effect. Is there any way to check that: a) the installation is successful b) our system is compatible with SecuritySuite Thanks, Diane

    Hello Diane,

It's compatible with 6.5.13. Just make sure to use the 6.5.13_SecuritySuite_Full-Edition_v2.6.5.zip file. If the Module Loader was successful then you should be fine.

What exactly are you seeing that is giving you different results than expected? You have been using SecuritySuite for 3 years now so has anything changed recently such as moving to a new server?

If things do go wrong with the installation it is typically file permission issues and moving to a new server may make this more likely then. Here are 2 help docs for both setting file permissions to fix the current state and another for setting default permissions to ensure future files are created correctly:

    http://support.sugarcrm.com/04_Find_Answers/02KB/02Administration/100Troubleshooting/Troubleshooting_Issues_With_Filesystem_Permissions/ http://support.sugarcrm.com/04_Find_Answers/02KB/02Administration/100Install/Setting_File_Permissions_and_Ownership_in_config.php/

Hopefully this will get you up and running. If not, we'll figure it out.

Last possibility. When you make changes to groups, roles, etc the affected user must log out and back in for the permissions to take effect due to how SugarCRM caches permissions upon login.

    Follow up information from Diane:

So here is a summary of where we are:

    1. Sugar is showing version 2.6.5 of security suite but shows date installed as 19 April 2011.
    2. We didn’t upgrade Sugar to 6.5.13 in the end as the issue we were trying to fix was resolved without this upgrade.
    3. I was not involved with the original install and so didn’t test it at the time or since so I don’t know whether it has changed or what has changed (not very helpful I’m sorry!) and I haven’ really taken much notice of this side of things but now have more responsibilities relating to Sugar.
    4. Basically any user seems able to view any account/contact/lead/opportunity regardless of the Security group to which they are assigned.

So it looks like it probably was never set up then. To get a good overview on how it should work check out the Intro Video here: https://www.sugaroutfitters.com/docs/securitysuite/introduction-video

The key thing to know is that Groups determine which records a user has access to and Roles determine what the user can do with those records.

If you want it so that users can only see other records assigned to their groups then you will need to add the user to a group, add the group to all appropriate records (Accounts, Contacts, that the group should have access to), and then add a Role to the group that sets List, View, etc to Group access. Once the user logs out and back in only the records assigned directly to the user or assigned to the user's groups will be visible.

From there, tweak as desired to reflect your organization's needs.

Hopefully that gets you going in the right direction!

Hi Jason Thanks for the video link. Unfortunately I don't get the option Group in the drop down in the Role management grid. I guess that's where it is all going wrong! Can you assist further please. Thanks Diane

      Hello Diane,

Then the install didn't work. Most likely that is because certain core files are replaced during install, but your server's file permissions prevented the copy from happening. Try fixing the file permissions to allow for writing and then install again. Here is a starting point for setting permissions: http://support.sugarcrm.com/04_Find_Answers/02KB/02Administration/100Troubleshooting/Troubleshooting_Issues_With_Filesystem_Permissions/
