#1581 - Issues with transferring filters with dashlets

Closed Bug? created by stevec 6 years ago

Hi,

I'm having issues when dashboards are pushed out. Occasionally, but not always, the dashboards for the receiving users do not have the filters from the original dashboard dashlets. Some of these filters are 'personal' filters which were created within the dashlet editor by the originating user.

If this is a known issue, is it only certain types of filter - would a global custom filter be better? Eg: http://support.sugarcrm.com/02_Documentation/04_Sugar_Developer/Sugar_Developer_Guide_7.5/20_UI_Model/30_Views/05_Filters/

Thanks

    Hello,

All the filters, created by the users in their dashlets, are normally saved in the template and redeployed when a template is pushed for a user. The only limitations are that the filter must be saved (with a filter name and be selectable in the list of filters) and it must be linked (applied) to the dashlet when the template is created (when the data of the template is loaded). The module does not backup all the filters of a user, only the ones linked to a dashlet at the time of the template creation. When the template is redeployed, a copy of the original filter is created for the target user.

However, it is very important to either use 2 different PC or properly clean the cache, sessions, cookies when testing template deployment. We had feedback of problems linked to either disappearing filters or double filters because user filters are stored locally in the browser's cache and unwanted merges can happen. So after deploying a template, either use a different browser or properly clean all cache before connecting with the target user.

I am also having this issue. The filters only appear every once and a while. I have tried clearing the cache and using different browsers but this doesn't help the issue.

I created global custom filters rather than distributing personal filters - this seems to bypass the issue - whether it's related to the app or to the caching.

When i setup a filter on a dashlet (eg. Report Listing) and then deploy - the filter has to be reset on the user's dashlet - i was expecting an update to this plugin as it was initially discovered many months ago (approx sept 2014)

    Hello arcangel,

We will look into this specific problem - Report Listing dashlet with filters - and get back to you. To do this, can you please provide us with the Sugar version and the module version you are using when experiencing this bug?

    Hello arcangel,

The module will only create templates with saved filters like custom defined and named filters or standard named filters. Here are some examples:

Standard named filters : My Favorites, Recently created, ... As for the custom defined ones, you create a filter then you give it a name and this will save it.

Dashboard template deployer will only deploy saved filters. If you do not wish to share filters, just create a temporary user in Sugar and use him to create dashboard configurations with saved filters. Once the setup of the dashboards is done, load his configuration into a template and deactivate the user so it doesn't use any licence. This way you can always activate that user and manage templates with dashboards, dashlets and filters when needed.
